Background

Opera Connecticut, formerly Connecticut Concert Opera, brings the joy of live opera to the Greater Hartford area in Connecticut. Since 1991 we have provided performance and employment opportunities to the finest artists in the state. We are constantly innovating opera. Last spring for example, we staged our fresh take on an operatic classic, which we called “Prelude, Prologue, Pagliacci", at our mainstage home, the Hoffman Auditorium at The University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford. “PPP” featured a first-rate international cast with full orchestra, to critical acclaim. Over the summer, we moved to what has become our summer home for the last few years, the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington, for several “Summer Enchanted Evening of Opera” vocal concerts at Hill-Stead’s lovely Sunken Garden. With our creative performances we hope to show the beauty of opera to audiences of all generations.

Last December we returned to Hill-Stead (indoors this time) for two performances of the beloved holiday opera, Amahl and the Night Visitors, a timeless story set to beautiful music, as part of our outreach project. This is a favorite opera for children of all ages. The weekend before opening night, we inaugurated Amahl at Grace Academy in downtown Hartford, a benefit performance for Grace Academy students.
